About Andalgarve-Golf
"Andalgarve" - the area
This is the name that we have given to that area of Spain and Portugal
either side of the border between North West Andalucia and the Eastern
portion of the Algarve. From Faro airport, Spain can be reached on the
excellent motorway link in well under an hour.
In "Andalgarve" we have currently 4 golf courses in Portugal
and 6 in Spain all bar one within a 30-minute drive of the border. In
the next two years, a further two courses will open close to the Spanish
border and soon after, two more in Portugal.
As a destination for golfers, "Andalgarve" offers excellent
value-for-money. Green fees are cheaper than those for the courses on
the Western Algarve or the Costa del Sol and the courses are less crowded.
Ten minute start intervals are used at all our partner courses.
Development of "Andalgarve" only started in earnest less
than ten years ago and thankfully, the area has maintained strong local
traditions, customs and many festivals of local culture. This area is
still unspoilt and the local people have retained their outgoing friendliness
and hospitality.
Andalgarve-Golf - the company
Colin McDonald and Andrew Shanks formed the "Andalgarve-Golf"
tour operation to develop a new golf destination to rival the established
Western Algarve and Costa del Sol. Unlike many of the large golf tour
operators we actually live and work here and as long-term residents
of the area, we know the courses, the hotels, the apartments and recommend
places to eat at and to visit from personal experience. Colin is a PGA
professional and was Golf Director of Castro Marim Golf Club, one of
our partner courses. Andrew is a Marketing and P.R. professional now
semi-retired to the area with his family. We can offer flexibility in
arranging your holiday and "hands on" service that the large
operators tend to lack. Whether you require a golf tuition holiday in
small or large groups or if you want to combine a beach holiday with
just a few rounds of golf, we can tailor a package to suit your needs.
